En cambio, el alcohol polivin\u00edlico se fabrica disolviendo otro pol\u00edmero, el acetato de polivinilo (PVAc), en un alcohol como el metanol y trat\u00e1ndolo con un catalizador alcalino como el hidr\u00f3xido de sodio. La hidr\u00f3lisis resultante, o reacci\u00f3n de \"alcoh\u00f3lisis\", elimina el grupo acetato de la mol\u00e9cula de acetato de polivinilo sin destruir la estructura de cadena larga de la mol\u00e9cula de acetato de polivinilo. Estructura qu\u00edmica de la unidad de repetici\u00f3n de alcohol vin\u00edlico resultante<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuando la reacci\u00f3n es completa, el producto es soluble en agua y pr\u00e1cticamente insoluble en todos los disolventes org\u00e1nicos.
