L'hypromellose est une partie du m\u00e9thyle et une partie de l'\u00e9ther polyhydroxypropylique de la cellulose. Elle peut \u00eatre dissoute dans l'eau froide pour former une solution d'une certaine viscosit\u00e9, et ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s sont proches des substances visco\u00e9lastiques (principalement la mucine) pr\u00e9sentes dans les larmes. Il peut donc \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 comme larmes artificielles. Son m\u00e9canisme d'action est le suivant : il se fixe \u00e0 la surface du globe oculaire par l'adsorption du polym\u00e8re et simule l'action de la mucine conjonctivale, am\u00e9liorant ainsi l'\u00e9tat de mucine r\u00e9duite dans l'\u0153il et augmentant le temps de r\u00e9tention du globe oculaire dans l'\u00e9tat de larme r\u00e9duite. Cette adsorption est ind\u00e9pendante de la viscosit\u00e9 de la solution, ce qui permet d'obtenir un effet mouillant persistant pour les solutions de faible viscosit\u00e9. En outre, le mouillage de la corn\u00e9e est augment\u00e9 en abaissant l'angle de contact de la surface corn\u00e9enne propre.<\/p>\n
