Polivinil alkohol (PVA) adalah polimer dengan molekul tinggi, terbuat dari vinil asetat (VAC) melalui polimerisasi dan alkoholisis. Polimer ini memiliki daya rekat yang baik, sifat pembentuk lapisan film, ketahanan terhadap minyak, dan perlindungan koloid. Karakteristik bebas polusi dan dapat terurai jarang terlihat pada bahan polimer. Dibandingkan dengan produk kimia lainnya, PVA dan produk turunannya memiliki ruang pengembangan yang sangat luas, dan penggunaan baru serta varietas baru masih dalam pengembangan berkelanjutan. Di area aplikasi tradisional produk PVA, selain digunakan sebagai bahan baku serat vinilon sintetis, mereka terutama digunakan dalam perekat, bubur tekstil, pembuatan kertas, dll.
