1. Polivinil alkohol larut dalam air dan umumnya perlu dipanaskan hingga 65~75\u00b0C agar larut sepenuhnya. Sedikit larut dalam dimetil sulfoksida. Larut dalam gliserol pada suhu 120~150\u2103, tetapi menjadi jeli ketika didinginkan hingga mencapai suhu kamar.<\/p>\n

2. Untuk melarutkan polivinil alkohol, bahan tersebut harus ditambahkan ke dalam air bersuhu ruangan sambil diaduk. Sebarkan secara merata lalu panaskan untuk mempercepat pelarutan, yang dapat mencegah penggumpalan dan memengaruhi kecepatan pelarutan. Larutan berair polivinil alkohol (5%) sangat sensitif terhadap boraks dan asam borat, yang mudah menyebabkan gelasi.
